Thekabarnews.com—The West Kalimantan governor, Ria Norsan, reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to improving the roads. They are also helping the economy grow by making sure that all levels of government work together better.
Norsan said that the central government, provincial governments, and district governments all need to keep working together. This cooperation guarantees the proper execution of development and maintenance. Moreover, this trend is because more and more people are posting about broken roads on social media.
He said that it is obvious who is responsible for fixing roads based on where they are. According to the Public Works and Housing Minister’s decree, Nomor 1688/KPTS/M/2022, national roads are the responsibility of the central government. These roads include major ones and logistics corridors that connect provinces.
Meanwhile, provincial roads are governed by Decree nomor 1470/DPUPR/2022 from the West Kalimantan governor. This decree provides the legal basis for budget allocation for construction and routine maintenance.
Local governments, particularly those connecting residential areas and sub-districts, manage roads at the district or municipal level.
Norsan said the provincial government won’t ignore hazardous road conditions that hinder travel and connectivity, despite administrative boundaries.
“We will keep pushing for coordination, even if the province does not have the power to do it. The most important thing is to make sure that public services keep running well,” he said.
The governor stressed the need for collaboration and cautioned that bureaucratic divisions could worsen infrastructure issues. He urged authorities to put public needs first and ensure the uninterrupted flow of goods and services.
The provincial government is also working more closely with the central government. This collaboration aims to fix national roads that are important for business and getting around.
Norsan asked for more funds from the state budget (APBN). He emphasized the need for better funding to expedite infrastructure improvements.
In addition, the government is paying close attention to reports from residents about muddy and severely damaged roads in remote areas. Such conditions continue to hinder daily mobility and economic activities. This is particularly true in underserved regions.
Norsan expressed optimism that stronger intergovernmental synergy, combined with sufficient budget allocation, will enable faster and more effective road repairs.
Improved transportation access, he added, is expected to stimulate more balanced economic growth across West Kalimantan. This includes growth in rural and remote areas.
Infrastructure is still a big part of growth, so the provincial government wants to make sure that better connections really help people. This principle applies to all parts of the region.
