Pontianak, Thekabarnews.com—The Pontianak city administration is once again working on its waterfront area along the Kapuas River. This is part of a larger plan to make the city look better and boost its economy.
The 2026 part of the project will go from Gang Kamboja to Gang H. Mursyid and will take three years to finish. The city’s regional budget (APBD) will pay for the first Rp20 billion of the project.
The Pontianak mayor, Edi Rusdi Kamtono, says that the project is part of a long-term plan to improve the waterfront that started in 2014. He emphasized the project’s significance to the city. Despite its staged implementation, the project will continue.
“We will keep working on the waterfront development because it has been a city program for a long time. It has to move forward slowly because it will shape the identity of Pontianak,” he said, Wednesday, April 1.
The new development plan will incorporate some of the same improvements made to the Parit Besar area, according to the Pontianak mayor. However, it will also have more unique, eco-friendly, and culturally important features.
Some of the planned additions to the Kapuas I Bridge duplication are sports and recreation areas. The project will also include interconnected green parks.
He also said that the project’s goal is to create beautiful public spaces that people will want to take pictures of and share on Instagram. Meanwhile, the project aims to respect the area’s culture.
One of the best aspects will be including traditional elements, such as the Meriam Karbit attraction. That is a well-known cultural landmark in Pontianak.
The project is still in the planning stage, though. The city administration aims to conduct public meetings, particularly with individuals impacted by the new building.
The city administration might cover the costs of repairs or modifications to the affected properties. However, it is unlikely that they will buy a lot of land.
“We will compensate residents affected by the planned design. We want the development to go well,” Edi Kamtono said.
The waterfront project should have many beneficial effects, such as bringing in more tourists and helping the economy. It should also make businesses more competitive and create new jobs.
The city administration is asking both the provincial and central governments for more money because of the project’s potential.
Edi Kamtono said that the national parliament, the Kapuas River Basin Authority, and the right ministries have all helped plan the project. Most of the time, the answers have been satisfactory. However, it is still difficult to find ways to make the national budget better.
The Pontianak mayor also talked about how important it is for people in the community to help keep public infrastructure in good shape. The mayor wants to add safety features like CCTV cameras to the building. This will make sure it lasts and is safe.
“We hope that the people in the area will help take care of these public things. People need to work together to keep them safe. We are making the area safe, long-lasting, and comfortable for everyone,” Edi Kamtono remarked.
The Pontianak waterfront is expected to be a major force behind change in the city as it grows and people collaborate. It will also drive growth in the economy, leading to improved infrastructure. Moreover, the community should see increased tourism and enhanced engagement.
