Pontianak, Thekabarnews.com – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) for Maritime West Kalimantan has issued an early warning. The warning is for possible coastal flooding, known as rob, which threatens areas of Pontianak in early January 2026. Pontianak is on high alert as tidal flooding threatens early January 2026.
The warning is for people who live and work in coastal areas of the province. The official Instagram account @infobmkg.maritimkalbar says that the danger period will continue from January 1 to January 9, 2026.
The BMKG Maritime West Kalimantan said that the alarm is based on an analysis of tidal movement. The analysis shows that sea levels could climb as high as 2 meters at some moments. The organization also put out tidal maps to show how the tides were expected to change throughout that time.
These kinds of situations might cause seawater to flood coastal communities and ports. Additionally, low-lying neighborhoods, economic centers like traditional markets, and transit lines could be affected. If people do not take precautions, coastal flooding could stop them from doing their everyday tasks. It could even lead them to lose money.
BMKG Maritime West Kalimantan said that the highest tides will happen slowly over time. The highest tides will occur at the following times: January 4, 2026, from 05:00–07:00 WIB; January 5, 2026, from 06:00–08:00 WIB; January 6, 2026, from 07:00–08:00 WIB; and January 7, 2026, from 08:00–09:00 WIB.
People who live near the coast should be extra careful, especially during these peak tide hours. To lower the chance of damage and inconvenience, BMKG suggests changing operations near beaches, ports, river mouths, and areas that are prone to flooding. Pontianak is on high alert as tidal flooding threatens its coastal regions.
BMKG also encouraged people to check regularly for weather updates and early warnings. You can find these updates and early warnings on its official website and social media accounts. This helps to make sure they are ready in time.
BMKG wants to reduce the possible effects of coastal flooding at the beginning of 2026 by raising awareness early. They are also getting people ready to protect public safety and keep coastal community activities going.
