Pontianak, Thekabarnews.com—Two parking attendants got into a fight early on Sunday, January 25, in the busy Gajah Mada Street area of Pontianak. The Pontianak Police’s violent crimes unit (Jatanras) arrested a man in his 40s whose initials are SH after he allegedly attacked his friend CR with a sickle.
The bloody event started with a small argument that turned into serious violence. Police say that around 5 a.m. in a parking area in Benua Melayu Darat Village, SH and CR got into a fight over their work schedules. What started out as a talk quickly turned into a fight.
Witnesses said that SH threatened people directly before leaving the scene. A few minutes later, he came back with a sharp weapon and started chasing the victim right away. SH swung the sickle wildly and hit CR in the left rib area, making a deep stab wound that bled heavily.
People at the scene tried to help, but they could not stop the attack because the suspect ran away when they saw the victim fall into a pool of blood. Rescuers rushed CR to Anton Soedjarwo Hospital for emergency treatment.
Medical staff confirmed that the victim had serious injuries and needed blood transfusions and close monitoring. The victim is still unconscious, according to the most recent update.
Chief of the Pontianak Police’s criminal investigation unit, Ryan Eka Cahya, said that the Jatanras team acted quickly and arrested SH at his home in Sungai Ambawang, Kubu Raya Regency, less than 24 hours after the attack.
The police took the suspect’s clothes and SH’s bloody shirt as important evidence during the arrest. However, investigators have not yet recovered the weapon used in the attack. Police believe the suspect dropped the sickle while trying to escape in a heavily drunk condition.
Further investigation showed that the suspect attacked the victim because the victim refused to lend him money. The suspect’s emotional state got worse after drinking, which made him frustrated and led to the brutal act.
Police are now arresting SH and accusing him with serious assault under Indonesia’s Criminal Code (KUHP). The maximum sentence for this crime is five years in prison. Police said the case shows how alcohol can quickly turn small arguments into deadly violence.
