Thekabarnews.com—Saudi and Iranian authorities firmly denied reports circulating on social media about the expulsion of Iranian diplomats from Riyadh. They said the reports are false and misleading.
At a press conference in Tehran on Tuesday, March 24, the spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nasser Kanaani said the claims were false.
“It is completely false and without basis to say that our diplomats were kicked out in 24 hours,” Kanaani said.
He also said that Iran’s embassy in Riyadh and consulate in Jeddah are still open and doing business as usual. Furthermore, diplomatic communications between the two countries are still going well.
Saudi officials reinforced the statement, calling the claims deliberate misinformation meant to escalate tensions. Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry stressed that the status of Iranian diplomats in the country has not changed.
News agencies worldwide have found no evidence of expulsion. Officials have not released any documents, statements, or credible reports confirming that such diplomatic action has occurred.
Authorities also said that the safety and work status of embassy staff are still satisfactory.
The clarification comes at a time when tensions are rising in the Middle East. Ongoing wars have led to a rise in false information about political and security events.
During times of instability, especially on social media and unofficial news sites, analysts say that unverified reports can spread quickly.
Despite regional tensions, Saudi Arabia and Iran have continued efforts to maintain diplomatic engagement since restoring relations in March 2023.
Both countries have recently explored cooperation in areas such as humanitarian assistance and maritime security. This signals a cautious but ongoing effort to stabilize ties.
Officials from both sides said again that they wanted to talk and keep the area stable. They also avoided narratives that could escalate tensions, including rumors and inflammatory statements.
If misinformation is not dealt with, it can have serious effects, especially when it comes to sensitive diplomatic issues. For example, it can escalate tensions or undermine trust between nations.
Officials and media institutions are calling on the public to use credible sources and not spread unverified information.
The situation shows that maintaining information integrity has become increasingly challenging in the digital era. This is especially true in areas with complex geopolitical conditions.
