Jakarta, Thekabarnews.com—The private sector has given the Indonesian government a lot of land to help with its big national housing project. The Lippo Group will give the government about 30 hectares of land. This will help its program for affordable housing grow.
Housing and Settlements Minister Maruarar “Ara” Sirait made the announcement. He said that the land grant will help the 3 Million Homes Program. This program is a national effort started by Prabowo Subianto to make housing more affordable.
The land that was given away is in the Meikarta area of South Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, according to Sirait.
The government wants to build subsidized vertical housing units on the land that are only for people with low incomes.
“These 30 hectares are amazing,” Ara said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the subsidized apartment project in Meikarta on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
He said that the project team included leaders from the state investment agency Danantara and the Lippo Group. They planned ahead and found that the area could hold about 140,000 homes.
The project could become one of the biggest affordable housing developments in the area, according to officials.
Most of the new homes will be for people with low-income earners (MBR) in Indonesia.
Cities that are growing quickly, like Bekasi, still have a challenging time providing affordable housing. This is because more people are moving there and property prices are going up.
The government is using vertical housing projects, like subsidized apartments (Rusun), more and more. This is being done to help with the lack of housing in crowded areas.
The Meikarta housing project shows how the Indonesian government and private developers can work together. With this cooperation, they can get housing and infrastructure projects done faster, which is essential for addressing the urgent need for affordable housing in densely populated regions.
Officials say that these kinds of partnerships are crucial for reaching the big goal. The goal is to build three million homes across the country.
By combining government policy support with private-sector resources, officials want to make housing more affordable, which is essential for achieving the ambitious target of building three million homes across the country. They also want to lower the cost of development.
The 3 Million Homes Program is one of the most important social development goals for the current government. The program’s goal is to improve people’s quality of life. It also aims to reduce the number of people who need housing and make it easier for people in Indonesia to find decent housing.
Through projects like the Meikarta development, policymakers want to help millions of Indonesians. In particular, they want to help families with little money find permanent housing.
As the planning process continues, government officials say they will keep working with private partners and local governments. They want to make sure the project meets both housing needs and long-term goals for urban development.
