Landak, West Kalimantan, Thekabarnews.com—Landak Deputy Regent Erani has made an official statement. This follows a viral video that showed him getting into a heated argument with some PT SMS employees. People started talking about the widely shared video on social media. In addition, it raised questions about what the Landak administration should do about an ongoing labor dispute.
Erani said in a statement posted on the Instagram account Landak Pusat Informasi that the fight between the company’s management and employees had been going on for a while. There have been several attempts to settle the dispute through mediation.
Erani says that the authorities set up a mediation meeting for February 10 at 10:00 a.m. local time. But he said that the employee representatives were not there. Even though they were not there, officials went ahead with the meeting. Importantly, it lasted until about 2:00 p.m.
After the mediation session, Erani said that on his way home, he saw several employees on the road. During that meeting, they discussed the possibility of scheduling another meeting. Later, they recorded and shared parts of that conversation online. As a result, the content formed the basis of the viral video.
Erani stressed that he was there to help people talk to each other, not to take sides. He said that he wanted to hear from everyone, promote communication, and keep the dispute’s atmosphere positive.
“I was there to hear hopes and find the best solution, not to pick a side,” he said.
People in the area say that viral videos often only show parts of bigger situations. This is especially true when it comes to conflicts at work. The Deputy Regent said again that he was committed to making sure that the company and its workers could talk to each other in a fair and helpful way.
Erani told residents to stay calm and let the legal process continue as the case continues to get a lot of media attention. The goal of the clarification is to make things more clear. It also aims to strengthen the local government’s role as a neutral mediator in settling job disputes.
