Jakarta, Thekabarnews.com—The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially moved Ex-religious affairs minister, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, from a KPK jail to house arrest. This decision is a big step forward in the legal process. It is still going on.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said that KPK agreed to the change in type of detention on the night of March 19. The suspect’s family made a formal request on March 17. The request was two days before the decision.
“Investigators have moved suspect YCQ’s detention from the KPK detention center to house arrest,” Budi said, Saturday, March 21.
KPK says that the request was looked at by the authorities and approved, as required by Law No. 20/2025. Furthermore, Article 108, paragraphs (1) and (11) of Indonesia’s Criminal Law Procedures Code (KUHAP), covers these issues.
KPK said that the decision is in line with the rules that are already in place for holding people. It is also in line with the rules for looking into things.
Budi stated that they continue to monitor the individual closely, despite their release from prison. Despite Yaqut’s house arrest, officials continue to closely monitor him to ensure his compliance with all regulations.
“KPK is still watching this transfer of detention closely and protecting it,” Budi remarked.
Budi also said that the lawsuit against Yaqut will go on as planned. The law says that investigators are still collecting evidence and putting the case together.
Many people are talking about the decision to put someone under house arrest because it involves a famous politician. The KPK, on the other hand, said that these kinds of things happen a lot. They may be allowed for some legal reasons, like humanitarian or procedural reasons.
KPK says that changing the type of detention does not change the suspect’s status or the investigation’s focus. It indicates that the whole legal system works differently now, not just this one case.
People in Indonesia will be watching the KPK closely as the case goes on. Especially, they want to see if they are honest and fair when they deal with corruption cases involving famous people. Budi has vowed to be professional, responsible, and legal at all times.
