Thekabarnews.com – Al-Imam Al-Hafizh Ibnu Rajab Al-Hambali, may Allah have mercy on him, once said, “Everything that pains the soul and feels heavy for humans—meaning the disasters that happen to them—will be an expiation for their sins.” (Majmū‘ Ar-Rasā’il, 4/17)
What This Advice Means If a believer faces every hardship, sorrow, trial, affliction, or heavy burden with patience and satisfaction, Allah Ta’ala will turn it into an expiation. This means that these hardships will lead to the removal of their sins.
This scenario encompasses many kinds of hardships, such as physical discomfort, heartbreak, and stress from work or school. Moreover, it encompasses losses of money or loved ones, interpersonal conflicts, financial issues, and numerous other problems.
If all of this results from actions other than sinning without seeking Allah’s forgiveness, then the trial brings both reward and forgiveness.
What We Can Learn
1. Disasters bring comfort to the hearts of Muslims. Disasters do not signify God’s hatred towards his slaves; rather, they may serve as a sign of mercy and a means to atone for sins.
2. Bad things make people more patient and trust Allah. A believer knows that grief and suffering have a purpose. Allah sees all of these things as precious.
3. Disasters teach us to be pleased with what Allah has planned for us. For those who embrace it with an open heart, every adversity in life comes with recompense and forgiveness for sins.
4. Disasters keep us from giving up. Problems in this life can lead to redemption in the next.
“And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 155).
This text makes it clear that believers will face tests, no matter how big or minor. But Allah offers beneficial news of forgiveness and a big recompense for those who are patient.
Evidence from the Prophet’s Hadith ﷺ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “No Muslim suffers from tiredness, disease, anxiety, grief, injury, or suffering—even a thorn that pricks him—except that Allah will remove his sins because of it.” (Hadith Narrated: Al-Bukhari no. 5641 and Muslim no. 2573).
This hadith makes it clear that any disaster that hurts and weighs you down will wipe away your sins. This is especially true if you are patient and accept God’s plan.
In another hadith, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The size of the reward is equal to the size of the test.” When Allah loves a group of people, He will put them through tests. If someone is happy, then Allah is happy with them. “Whoever is angry, Allah is angry with him.” (Hadith Narrated: At-Tirmidzi no. 2320 and Ibn Majah no. 4021).
This hadith makes it clear that tribulations are not a negative thing. They are a symbol of God’s affection for His faithful people.
Conclusion:
Do not see calamities through the eyes of the world; see them through the eyes of the hereafter. What hurts you most now may save you later.
So be patient and pleased with every test. If God likes, everything will turn out well.
I hope this advice helps everyone, especially our brothers and sisters who are going through calamities and pain in different parts of the world. We ask Allah Ta’ala to provide them strength and patience. We turn to Him alone for support and safety.
