Thekabarnews.com—Behind this quiet wall, where voices are low and hearts are soft, is the blessed Prophetic Chamber. The Prophet Muhammad laid his noble body and his two companions, Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq and Umar bin Al-Khattab, to rest in this chamber (may Allah ﷻ be pleased with them).
It is a chamber that is not open to the public or visible. People covered it out of respect and for protection. As a result, it became one of Medina’s most cherished secrets, only revealed through reliable historical accounts.
The famous historian Al-Samhudi, may Allah ﷻ have mercy on him, may have been the last person to witness the site of the aristocratic burials with his own eyes in the year 878 AH. He came in with humility and amazement. However, he came to fulfill a historical trust and to bear witness to what he observed, rather than to gratify his curiosity or rely on his thoughts or imagination.
Al-Samhudi recalls the moment of entry in a way that no one else has. He says that as soon as he got to the back of the Chamber, a stench that he had never smelled before filled the air. He then stood up with respect and humility to meet the most noble of all beings, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, as well as his two companions, Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq and Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah ﷻ be pleased with them).
When he looked, he did not see any buildings or headstones. Instead, he observed flat terrain with dampness and pebbles (reddish sand). There was no apparent burial or sign of one. Al-Samhudi observed only a small rise in the middle of the Chamber and stated that it was not the Prophetic grave but likely the grave of Umar (may Allah ﷻ be pleased with him).
From this point on, the facts become evident. They separate truth from rumors and widely held beliefs:
First, people are entering the Honorable Compartment (the Maqsurah) today, not the Chamber itself. There is a solid wall around the Chamber that has no door or window. Green fabric covers this wall.
Second, all images of the “tomb of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ” are fake. This fact is because Al-Samhudi said the land was flat and without marks.
Third, builders constructed the wall around the Chamber when Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) served as governor of Medina. Since the wall’s construction, it has been impossible to directly witness the noble burials. Only stories of individuals visiting the wall for maintenance have surfaced. In the end, only Allah ﷻ has the final say on this matter.
Fourth, while the Mother of the Believers, Aisha (may Allah ﷻ be pleased with her), was alive, certain individuals visited the Chamber to offer their greetings. They completely closed the door after she died. Later, during the reign of Al-Walid bin Abd al-Malik, authorities added the chambers to the mosque’s expansion.
Fifth, anyone who says they went into the “Chamber” during this time is just talking about the honor of entering the Maqsurah (the enclosure), whether they are servants or important people. Authorities have not opened the Chamber and will not open it.
So, the Prophetic Chamber is still a place of worship, not of seeing. People keep it out of sight so that it remains in their hearts. People visit it with peace (Salam), not with their eyes. Additionally, they honor its position by following (the Sunnah), not by taking pictures.
O Allah, give peace, blessings, and mercy to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He is Your servant and messenger, as well as his family and friends. On this joyful day, please send him our greetings. Make our prayers for him an acceptable act of nearness to You. May this act fulfill needs, open hearts, heal distress, and grant triumph to the oppressed. Yes, you can hear and answer everything.
