Seoul, Thekabarnews.com—There is more to K-pop fans than just the music and chanting. Activists from Indonesia and South Korea are now pressing the entertainment sector all over the world to do something about climate change.
The environmental group KPOP4PLANET met with South Korean politician Park Soo-hyun at the National Assembly on February 6, 2026, in Seoul. They sought performance criteria that do not make carbon emissions worse.
Fans in Indonesia realize that climate change is real. According to Nurul Sarifah, one of the creators of KPOP4PLANET, Indonesia is having trouble putting on huge concerts because of floods and other adverse weather. There are a lot of K-pop fans in Indonesia.
“Fans already regard the climate problem as a threat to their life,” she remarked at the meeting. Indonesian fans who could not be present submitted the lawmaker video messages begging him to modify the law so that people can keep enjoying K-pop without harming the environment.
A poll from 2025 indicated that 92.2% of fans around the world desire concerts that are good for the environment. The “K-Pop Carbon Hunters” petition has almost 10,000 signatures.
Activists claim that South Korea should take care of K-pop because that is where it all began. People all across the world could enjoy fun in innovative ways if Seoul made laws for concerts that don’t affect the environment.
Park Soo-hyun said he would ask the administration for a strategy and look into forming a group that could talk to business leaders, members of parliament, and the ministries.
As part of a wider transformation, fans are going from just using goods to advocating for the environment. Fans believe that K-pop should be more environmentally friendly as it becomes more well-known worldwide.
