Pontianak, Thekabarnews.com – Melati Fajarwati, a well-known designer from West Kalimantan, said that someone who worked in Lapis Legit cake shop in Pontianak since October 2024 stole money and committed fraud. Experts believe the victims lost hundreds of millions of rupiah.
The crime started when the criminal offered to collaborate with the victim in a grocery store enterprise with the promise of big earnings. The victim then sent money in little amounts. However, a subsequent investigation revealed that the thief had taken the money from the grocery shop without the victim’s knowledge.
“We have already given the money to the store, but the thief snatched it back without telling us.” Melati revealed after talking to the Pontianak City Police that she did not know what it was used for.
The victim further said that the criminal tricked them by pretending to be a grocery store owner. The criminal used a different phone number. The Pontianak City Police have had an official complaint since January 2025. However, the person who did it has not been arrested and is thought to be uncooperative.
Herman Hofi, the victim’s lawyer, said that the suspect, whose initials are EAG, has been officially named based on the SPDP (Preliminary Investigation Report) from the Pontianak City Police Criminal Investigation Unit. He asked the police to make an arrest right away. This is because the conditions of Articles 372 and 378 of the Criminal Code were met.
“The conditions for detention are enough under the law.” Herman underscored that failure to stop this might erode public confidence in law enforcement.
If the investigators did not take any clear steps soon, legal officials said they would take this case to the Propam of the West Kalimantan Police. They would even escalate it to the National Police Headquarters.
