Thekabarnews.com—The Global Fraud Index 2025 from Sumsub says that Indonesia is the second most likely country in the world to commit fraud. The survey looked at 112 countries and found that Indonesia is the 111th most dangerous. It got a score of 6.53 out of 10. This result shows that more and more people are afraid of being victims of crime online.
The survey says that more and more Indonesians are becoming victims of online scams. People try to trick you in many ways, like phishing, social engineering, fake investment platforms, and fake online loan businesses. As more people use digital payments, scammers can take advantage of flaws in the system and people’s behavior.
The Communication & Information System Security Research Center (CISSReC) head, Dr. Pratama Dahlian Persadha, called the problem a digitalization paradox. He said that Indonesia’s digital economy and financial technology sectors are growing very quickly, but not many people know about it, and the security infrastructure is old.
For several reasons, Pratama thinks that Indonesia’s vulnerability score is very high. Individuals with varying levels of proficiency in technology can easily deceive others. Every year, people tell the government about hundreds of thousands of scams. People lose trillions of rupiah because of these scams.
It is harder to make sure that people follow the rules. Indonesia has passed the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP), but the government hasn’t yet fully operationalized the Data Protection Authority. This gap makes it harder to keep track of and work together on cases of cyber fraud and data misuse.
There are also big differences between the public and private sectors when it comes to how to keep people safe. When cybersecurity is weak, the law is weak, and people don’t know much about it, fraud is more likely to happen.
Experts say that Indonesia could still be at a high risk of fraud unless the police get stronger, the country spends more on cybersecurity, and there are programs all over the country to teach people how to use computers. As more people use digital technology, it will be more important than ever to keep customers safe and improve systems.
The Global Fraud Index 2025 is a warning for everyone, including the government, businesses, and regular people. It also states that policymakers must develop new technologies while protecting people online.
