Mempawah, Thekabarnews.com—The Health Office for Population Control and Family Planning (Diskes PPKB) in Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan, says that the number of new HIV/AIDS patients has gone up in 2025. Local leaders think the rise is small. However, they still see it as a major public health problem.
Harun Arrasyid, who is in charge of the Disease Prevention and Control Division (P2P) at Diskes PPKB Mempawah, says that there were 43 new cases of HIV/AIDS in 2024. In 2025, there were 56 new cases.
“There is a small rise from 2024. We had 43 cases in 2024 and 56 new cases in 2025,” Harun said, Monday, February 2.
There were 56 new cases in 2025, and most of them were men. Diskes PPKB says that 40 of the new cases were men and 16 were women. Men in Mempawah Regency are still the most likely to get HIV/AIDS, according to this writing.
Health experts say that the best way to keep people from getting sick is to pay attention to the people who are most likely to get ill. They also want to make programs that help people learn about things. Such an effort would help find them more quickly.
In 2025, a diverse range of at-risk individuals reported having HIV/AIDS. These groups include men who have sex with men (MSM), transgender people, people with tuberculosis (TB), kids who get it from their parents, and women in pregnancy.
Health officials in the area are still pushing forprograms that test, talk to, and treat people to stop the disease from spreading. Additionally, officials also stress that people should be aware of these problems, be careful, and see a doctor regularly.
Diskes PPKB Mempawah has promised to do more to stop the spread of HIV and make it easier for people to get tested. They also want people to start taking antiretroviral drugs (ART). There have only been a few more cases.
The government wants people to get involved early and work together to keep the number of new HIV infections stable. After that, the goal is to reduce the number of new HIV infections over the next few years.
We need to be alert at the regional level. In addition, we must teach people what they need to know and put our public health efforts where they will do the most good to stop HIV/AIDS.
