Thekabarnews.com—John Fontaine, a businessman from the UK and a former jazz singer from Manchester, once called Islam a “religion of terror.” He also openly criticized Muslims from a Christian perspective. But now he is one of the most vocal supporters of the faith in Islam.
Fontaine became a Muslim in 2008 after what he calls years of questioning his faith and doing his research. He remembered writing a song called “Jesus and God” when he was seven. Fontaine said that when a priest changed the words to “Jesus is God,” he had a difficult time accepting it.
As a young man, he had heated arguments with Muslims and tried to prove Islamic beliefs wrong. But the more he read the Qur’an, the more his perspective changed.
“The more I learned and asked questions, the more I liked the strong message and teachings of the Qur’an,” he said.
Fontaine said that saying the Shahada, which is the Islamic declaration of faith, changed her life. He expressed a sense of relief and clarity within him after reciting the Shahada.
Since becoming a Muslim, Fontaine has been working on Islamic education and outreach. He writes books and research papers. In addition, he talks to people of different religions and answers questions from people who do not believe in God. He also supports humanitarian work, such as building Islamic schools in some parts of Africa.
Fontaine talked about how Islamic teachings have changed the world. He explained how they are still important today. He said that for more than 1,400 years, people have kept the Prophet’s message alive. Moreover, they passed it on to the next generation.
People who have seen Fontaine’s journey say it shows how personal faith and spiritual exploration can be. People in interfaith groups and online communities are still talking about how he went from being a critic to a supporter.
The ex-jazz singer now spends his time studying religion and helping out in his community. He calls his dedication to faith a lifelong goal.
