Thekabarnews.com—A new study in the Journal of the American Heart Association shows a worrying link between being irritable and having a healthy heart. Researchers found that being irritable for just eight minutes can make blood vessels work less well, which raises the risk of heart attack and stroke.
280 adults were asked to recall times they were angry, sad, or anxious. Next, scientists looked at how well the participants’ blood vessels worked. The results showed that remembering memories that made people angry made the blood vessels less able to open up by about 50 percent. This inflexibility persisted for as long as 40 minutes subsequent to the anger episode’s conclusion.
Anger made the endothelium, which is the thin inner lining of blood vessels that controls blood flow, noticeably stiffer. Sadness and anxiety, on the other hand, aren’t like this. When the endothelium loses its elasticity, it makes it harder for blood to flow freely. This puts more stress on the heart and blood vessels.
Experts say that while one angry outburst may not have immediate health effects, repeated outbursts can hurt your health over time. Over time, blood vessels that don’t work as well for short periods of time can cause atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, heart attacks, and strokes.
The American Heart Association asserts a strong correlation between your mental and physical health. Controlling your anger is good for your heart and mind. Stress-reduction techniques like regular exercise, breathing exercises, and mindfulness practices may help lower the risk of heart disease.
Your heart health is more than diet and exercise, as the results show. Controlling your emotions is essential for keeping your arteries strong and flexible and stopping heart disease from getting worse.
