Jakarta, Thekabarnews.com – Digital Edge has officially announced a large investment of US$4.5 billion to create a hyperscale artificial intelligence (AI) data center (CGK Campus) in Bekasi, West Java. Digital Edge will build the CGK Campus in the GIIC Industrial Estate. It will be one of the biggest data center projects in Southeast Asia.
The CGK Campus will have 500 megawatts (MW) of power at first. However, it will be able to increase to 1 gigawatt (GW) in the future. We will undertake the building process in stages. Moreover, we are aiming to complete the first part by the end of 2026. The next steps in development will take place in the first and second quarters of 2027.
The CGK Campus is around 15 kilometers from other huge data center clusters. It is about 40 kilometers from Digital Edge’s present facilities in Jakarta, EDGE1 and EDGE2. People think the site is significant because it is close to big industrial areas. In addition, it has the infrastructure to link to other places.
CEO of Digital Edge, John Freeman, remarked that the project was the company’s best accomplishment in its plan to grow in the Asia-Pacific area (APAC). He said that the CGK Campus is proof of how serious Digital Edge is about meeting the growing need for high-performance computing and AI-driven workloads.
The CEO of Digital Edge Indonesia, Stephanus Oscar, said that the digital economy in Indonesia is developing faster than the infrastructure that supports it. He noted that creating a hyperscale AI data center is a smart method to improve cloud services and AI-based business solutions in the country.
Digital Edge, which is part of PT Indointernet Tbk (EDGE), has also put Rp283 billion into two of its businesses in the past. The purpose of the money was to boost capital spending and accelerate the expansion of digital infrastructure throughout the nation.
The CGK Campus project aims to help Indonesia become a regional digital and AI hub. Digital Edge will play a key role in achieving this goal.
