Jakarta, Thekabarnews.com—The Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) has brought back more than 105,000 people who were part of the Recipients of Contribution Assistance (PBI) group of the National Health Insurance (JKN) program. Authorities deactivated these members’ coverage earlier this year.
BPJS Kesehatan decided to proceed after verifying data from 120,472 participants affected by temporary removal in 2026. The system temporarily excluded their names in 2026. BPJS Kesehatan says that the reactivation procedure happened after talks and verification with the Ministry of Social Affairs.
BPJS Kesehatan president director Ali Ghufron Mukti claimed that the prior deactivations were based on Decree No. 3/HUK/2026, which covers seven forms of catastrophic diseases. These diseases demand long-term and expensive medical care. Patients require dialysis and other forms of long-term therapy.
“Among those affected were individuals with serious ailments. Dialysis and related patient groups brought the matter forward, affecting a total of 120,472 participants,” Ali said during a legislative session at the DPR building, Monday, February 9.
He emphasized that the verification process has restored the active status of most affected individuals.
“We have reactivated 105,508 people as PBI JKN members out of 120,472 participants,” he said.
The government gives money to the PBI JKN program to pay for health insurance for individuals who are poor or at risk. As a result, people still need to be able to obtain health care services at all times. This aspect is especially important for those with serious conditions that need continuing care.
BPJS Kesehatan indicated again that it will respect the rights of its members and make sure that its records are accurate. In addition, the agency also advised other people who were suffering the same problems to notify them immediately through the right channels so that verification and reactivation could happen more quickly.
The latest reactivation demonstrates that the Indonesian government is still striving to find a balance between preserving public health and carrying out its programs. This is important as the country seeks to strengthen its universal healthcare system.
