thekabarnews.com – Al-Imam Ibnu Rajab Al-Hanbali, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
You can be friends with whomever you choose!
Therefore, by Allah, who is seated on His Throne, no one will be with you in your grave except for one friend: your good acts!
Therefore, be a better friend to him, and he will be a good buddy for you in the hereafter.
(Latha’iful Ma’arif (page 99), by Al-Imam Rajab Al-Hambali rahimahullah)
That statement means, in short:
Someone may have many friends in this life, but when death comes, all of those friends will have to leave.
Our actions are the only “real friends” that will be with us until the end of time.
If we do good things (which means being honest and following the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him), such things will help us and provide us consolation in the grave.
If we do bad things, we will suffer in the tomb and the Hereafter!
Key advantages and takeaways:
1. The suggestions above should help us enjoy life more so that we can spend more time getting ready for the next life.
Keep in mind that life on this planet is really transient. The only thing that will stay with us forever is the reward for our charitable acts.
When we die, all of our friends will leave us and stay away from us. The good things we do will be the only ones that stay with us until we are in the grave.
2. The suggestions above should push us to do better things.
The deeds must be done sincerely for the love of Allah and according to the Messenger of Allah’s teachings, not just for their number and variety. This is what makes deeds beneficial.
3. That guidance should make us less reliant on others (whoever they may be).
Our dear friends, family, and relatives will not be with us when we die.
Only our actions will follow or go with us.
Therefore, we do not depend on them all. Just work on being a better person by doing beneficial things and believe that He will be with us in doing good.
4. This counsel should also make us contemplate ourselves every day.
We should always ask ourselves and correct ourselves about how many wonderful things we have done each day.
Indeed, our current actions carry over into our future lives.
5. The advice above should also make us feel both fear and hope for Allah ta’ala in our hearts.
In other words, we should be afraid of doing bad things because they will become terrible companions for us in the grave.
We hope to get Allah’s mercy through our good deeds, so they will be good company in the grave.
To be good company in the afterlife, we must do good in this life.
One piece of evidence that supports this is the hadith from Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that says the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) once said:
Three things will follow or go with the dead person when they are buried: their family, their actions, and their money. Two groups will come back, and one group will stay with them (in the grave).
His family and fortune will return home, but his actions will stay with him. (Narrated by Al-Bukhori (4/194) no. 6514 and Muslim (4/2273)).
That is all for this short talk. May it be beneficial for all of us.
And may Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala always give us His guidance and prosperity so that we may always be faithful in our worship and good acts until the end of our lives.
