Jakarta, Thekabarnews.com—The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) has officially announced that the zakat income nisab for 2026 is Rp7,640,144 a month, or Rp91,681,728 a year. Muslims who make money or offer professional services must pay zakat for that money.
Muslims who earn at least the nisab amount must pay zakat, which is 2.5 percent of their income. Baznas set the amount during a zakat nisab deliberation meeting on February 20, 2026.
Baznas considered various factors to determine the number, including Islamic law, the country’s regulations, and the current state of the economy. The nisab value is equal to the cost of 85 grams of 14-karat gold. Moreover, this procedure is the most popular approach to figuring out how much zakat you owe.
The nisab was around 7 percent higher in 2026 than it was in 2025. This demonstrates how the economy has changed throughout time. According to the economic data we have, the hike is in line with the average yearly pay growth of roughly 6.17 percent.
Baznas chair, Noor Achmad, said that the agency needs to know how to handle zakat on a nationwide level.
He stated that Baznas must establish a uniform nisab since it regulates zakat administration at the national level. Zakat management organizations in Indonesia utilize the standard as a guide.
Noor claimed that BAZNAS did not only focus on religious needs when they established initiatives to give away zakat. They also thought about how these initiatives would affect society as a whole. This situation particularly applies to programs that aim to reduce poverty and empower communities.
Baznas chose the 14-karat gold standard as a practical approach to comply with Islamic principles while supporting economic balance. Baznas also looked at the average income of Indonesian families. This measure ensures that zakat responsibilities are still fair for contributors and actually benefit individuals in need.
Baznas added that the chosen gold benchmark reflects purchasing power levels similar to basic commodities such as premium rice. It also follows the usual guidelines for determining our zakat, like the price of silver and the Non-Zakatable Income Threshold (PTKZ).
Baznas officials designed the policy to protect the rights of zakat recipients and ensure fair treatment for zakat payers. The Baznas Chairman’s Decree No. 15/2026 made the decision official. In other words, this decree establishes the official nisab for zakat income and professional services for the year 2026.
The new nisab makes it clear what Muslims and zakat groups need to do to pay their zakat in 2026.
