Thekabarnews.com—The US, Israel, and Iran are still at war. As a result, fewer people are staying in hotels in Bali. This means that problems in the Middle East are starting to hurt the tourism industry. Particularly affected are regions like Bali that heavily rely on international travelers.
Consequently, there are significant declines in hotel occupancy rates in popular destinations like Bali. Bali has seen a drop in visitors due to safety concerns and travel advisories related to the ongoing conflict. As a result, there has been a noticeable decrease in hotel occupancy rates and overall tourism revenue on the island.
The Indonesia Hotel and Restaurants Association (PHRI) said that in March 2026, a lot fewer people stayed in hotels on the island.
PHRI Bali Deputy Chairman I Gusti Agung Rai Suryawijaya says that 60 percent of the time, hotels in Bali are full. At this time of year, most people were hoping for something else.
Rai said the drop is mainly due to issues with international transit routes. These issues make it challenging for Europeans and Middle Easterners to get around.
Many flights between Europe and Asia stop in big Middle Eastern cities like Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Dubai.
But due to current issues in the area, those routes are less appealing to tourists. So, people may avoid these flights since they take longer and are late.
“It is hard to get around Doha, Dubai, or Abu Dhabi right now if we go to Europe,” Rai said, as quoted in Tirto.
He also said that airlines might change the routes of their flights. They may instead fly through other cities, like Taipei or those in China.
But it usually costs more and takes longer to get to these other places. This can stop people from going there and hurt tourism in those areas. Specifically, increased travel times and expenses associated with alternative routes can deter travelers. As a result, such developments can lead to a decline in the number of visitors to those cities and negatively impact local economies.
PHRI says that a long war could have a big effect on tourism around the world.
Rai also said that if things get worse in the Middle East, the economy might get worse too. For example, both the price of oil and the price of basic goods could go up.
The price of plane tickets can also go up when gas prices go up. This could discourage long-term travel.
Some may not travel due to uncertainty about the global economy, which can lead to concerns about job security and financial stability that further discourage travel plans. When the economy deteriorates, many individuals tend to postpone or cancel their travel plans, according to Rai.
Bali is still one of the most popular places for tourists to go in Indonesia. Millions of people go there every year.
Travel industry professionals closely monitor global events that could impact flight schedules and traveler demand. For example, changes to visa rules, travel warnings, and tensions between countries are all things that could keep tourists from going. Such circumstances may lead to a significant decline in the number of visitors and negatively affect the local economy.
People from all over the world can still go to the island. However, tourism companies are worried about what will happen in the long run if things stay unstable. For example, fewer people might want to travel, and it might be harder to find flights. These things could be bad for their business.
PHRI Bali aims to ensure that individuals feel secure enough to return during times of peace and diplomatic efforts. Restoring traveler confidence and encouraging visits will help Bali’s tourism industry recover more quickly after the recent downturn.
PHRI is now stressing how important it is to keep up excellent service and let people know that Bali is a fun and safe place to visit.
They are doing this by implementing health and safety measures. For example, they use enhanced sanitation protocols and social distancing guidelines to protect people who might come.
