Sleman, Thekabarnews.com—A road collision case in Sleman Regency has drawn widespread public attention. This matter is because a husband who tried to defend his wife from a robbery is now a criminal suspect.
Arista Minaya, 39, who lives in Kalasan, talked about her family’s problems on social media. This is how the story got out. Hogi Minaya, her husband, is currently in legal trouble because of a terrible car accident. The crash happened while he was chasing suspected robbers who had targeted his wife.
Timeline of the event
The event occurred on April 26, 2025. Arista claimed she had asked her husband to help her get some customary treats. Hogi drove away from their house, while Arista took a motorcycle to Pathuk market to get some munchies. They planned to deliver the meal to a hotel in the Maguwoharjo area.
The couple met on the Janti flyover while heading to their destination. While traveling, Arista was unexpectedly the target of a robbery attempt.
Someone on a motorcycle knocked Arista off balance and took the bag she was carrying.
“I yelled, ‘robbery,’ but when I looked around, there was no one else present. It was just myself on my motorcycle and my husband nearby,” Arista told the media, Thursday, January 22.
Hogi ran after the suspects right away after he heard her scream. He attempted to stop the motorcycle carrying the two accused thieves. The suspects lost control of their car a few moments later and smashed into a wall. As a result, the crash flung them off the motorcycle and killed both riders instantly.
Following the crash, Arista recalled finding stolen items scattered everywhere. She also said that one of the suspects still held a cutter when officers found him lying face down and unconscious.
The legal process goes on
After the incident, Hogi actively cooperated with the police during the inquiry. Eventually, the police declared the robbery case legally concluded due to the deaths of both suspects.
However, the investigation into the car collision proceeded independently. Investigators labeled Hogi Minaya a suspect in the deadly crash about two to three months after it happened.
“I do not fully understand the legal article that was used. I was warned it was too much self-defense,” Arista stated.
She said authorities have now sent the case file to the public prosecutor’s office. Therefore, the legal process is still going on.
The case has brought up the question of how far self-defense can go. It also raises the issue of what legal consequences victims face when they try to protect themselves or their families during violent crimes.
