Seoul, Thekabarnews.com—KPOP4PLANET, an environmental group, has filed an official request to Park Soo-hyun, who is a member of the South Korean Democratic Party. The proposal is called “Guidelines for Carbon-Neutral Performance.” The meeting took place at the National Assembly on February 6, in Seoul.
The plan proposes that the government should form a council to make sure that K-pop concerts and festivals don’t harm the environment. Additionally, the National Assembly thought of the “Low-CarbonK-Pop Concert Standardization Forum“ in December 2025.
There was also Nurul Sarifah, an Indonesian activist who helped launch KPOP4PLANET. In addition, there was Dayeon Lee, who was selected as one of the BBC’s 100 Women in 2023. Nayeon Kim, who leads the “K-Pop Carbon Hunters” movement, was also present.
Activists noted that the guidelines for events in South Korea that are beneficial for the environment haven’t changed significantly since 2008. Therefore, they urged the government to bring together a group of people from the entertainment business, parliament, and government ministries. These groups should develop new guidelines. The new guidelines should take into account how quickly K-pop is booming and how serious climate change is getting.
KPOP4PLANET‘s 2025 global poll found that 92.2% of K-pop fans from foreign countries desire concerts that don’t use a lot of carbon. In total, about 10,000 people from all over the world have signed the group’s petition.
The idea proposes that the new Low-Carbon Concert Council will have four key jobs:
- Create transparent standards that regulate emissions from preparation to completion of the show.
- Find out about beneficial incentive programs for performances that don’t let out carbon dioxide.
- Please formalize the rules and distribute them.
- The National Assembly should start evaluating carbon-neutral performance in small groups.
Park Soo-hyun said he appreciated the concept and will ask the government for a strategy through a review by a standing committee. He would also think about getting a group of individuals together who can help him with rules.
KPOP4PLANET also talked about how Coldplay and Billie Eilish, two singers from other nations, had made their tours healthier for the environment. In addition, the suggestion illustrates that the K-pop business is under more and more pressure to find a solution. This new solution should transform culture in a way that is also healthy for the environment.
